James (aka Rose's hero)
James is one of the most lethal vampires around. He feeds off of humans and enjoys tracking humans that have drawn the attention of other vampires. (TW22)
James was in Biloxi, Mississippi sometime around 1919 or 1920 and came upon a vampire who worked in a mental institution and had grown fond of a young, female patient. James made it his task to kill the girl, but before he could reach her, the other vampire changed the girl, making it useless for James to kill her. That girl was Alice Cullen. (TW22)
In 2005, when James sees that Bella is being protected by Edward and the rest of the Cullens, he instantly wants to kill her for the sport of it. He eventually sets a trap for Bella in Phoenix, drawing her out of hiding by using her mother’s voice as bait. He wounds Bella almost fatally, breaking some ribs, her leg, and a cut on her head. He also bites her hand, sending venom into her system. (TW22)
When the Cullens arrive and find Bella in such a state, Emmett and Jasper grab James and rip him to shreds. They then proceed to burn the remains, ensuring that James never harms another living soul again. (TW23-TW24)
In March of 2006, Laurent stumbles upon Bella in the meadow and reveals that James and Victoria had been mates. He also tells Bella that Victoria fully intends on getting revenge for James’s death. (NM10)
PS: Rose REALLY wants to know about his past! Stephenie, if you ever see this, PLEASE write a book about James becoming a vampire or something like that!
Laurent
Laurent belongs to a nomadic coven of vampires who feed off of humans. He did most of the speaking for his group even though he wasn’t the groups’ leader. When they arrived in Forks, the group had been traveling from Ontario. When James began tracking Bella, it was Laurent who warned the Cullens about James’ abilities as a tracker. Intrigued by the life Carlisle and his family lived, and not wanting to get in the middle of the fight, Laurent left Forks for Denali. (TW19)
Laurent returned to Forks under the direction of Victoria to kill Bella. He does not succeed and his killed by the Quileute werewolves. (NM10) (NM13)
Victoria
Victoria is the one member of James’ clan that we don’t know much about. We know that she went after Bella’s scent and ended up chasing down Esme, who was wearing Bella’s clothing, and Rosalie. (TW19) We also know that she is still out there at the end of Twilight.
She appears again in March of 2006 and begins feeding on hikers while investigating the area. (NM10-NM13) She is trying to kill Bella in revenge for Edward and his family killing her mate, James, but is continuously chased off by the La Push werewolf pack. (NM10-NM13) It is assumed that Victoria was the "fire" that Bella saw on the water when she nearly drowned. (NM16) But, by the end of New Moon, she seems to have retreated further than ever after the return of the Cullen family. (NMep)
Charlotte
Charlotte was fighting with Peter and Jasper’s coven, but had passed "her year mark." Maria had instructed Peter and Jasper to dispose of all the, now useless, pawns, but Peter refused to destroy her. They ran away together and made new lives for themselves in the north. Eventually, they came back to the south for Jasper and he travelled with them for a few years. He left them, too, after a while and struck out on his own. (EC13)
Peter
Peter was part of Maria’s army in the vampire wars, one of the few who survived their first three years. However, he met Charlotte in battle and could not make himself destroy her; they ran off together into the north. Eventually, he came back for Jasper, telling him that they’d found a simpler, more peaceful way of life. He was the one who figured out that Jasper’s depression always got worse after he hunted and helped Jasper figure out why (EC13).
Lucy
Lucy and Nettie served Maria in her quest for vengence during the vampire wars in the south, but only because it was convenient for them. Eventually, they turned on Maria and were killed. (EC13)
Maria
Maria found Jasper in Texas after he’d helped evacuate a city. She saw something special in him–she called him "compelling"–and changed him instead of letting the others kill him. She trained him to kill other vampires and eventually put him in charge of her army.
Jasper helped her win many battles, including the one against the traitorous Nettie and Lucy, and she rewarded him well. After a few decades, though, Jasper became depressed and Maria contemplated killing him. It was at this point that Jasper disappeared with Peter (EC13).
